The Newer Technology in Home Security

Posted on June 7, 2017 in Uncategorized

The new look of home security not only means having a home security system, it also means having the other things that make a home secure that technology has made possible. Items such as keyless door pads instead of a door lock, that means no more giving keys out to the children and being concerned they might loose them and not be able to get in the house while the adults are not home.

This door lock works on fingerprints to unlock, that by its self is unique and what makes it secure is the fact there is no lock to be picked, no keys to give out to babysitters or anyone else that needs to enter the home at certain times. It means that when coming home after dark there is no key to try to find the slot in the lock and that means getting in the house faster and not being a target.

No matter how safe a neighborhood is, it is only safe until there is a criminal incident, it should not be a break-in in a family’s home. When the home is protected with a home security system, a keyless door pad and other security items the chance of a break-in is diminished to almost no chance.

Some of the other home security items that can be used to protect a home are outdoor lighting; a well lit home is not one that screams its open house to a burglar. There are lights that can be hard wired into the home or there are lights that work with a motion sensor that only come on when someone or something passes by this sensor that are known as dusk to dawn lights.

One of the other items can be used inside the home as well as outside the home for protection and to allow the homeowner to know what goes on in their home when they are not there and that is the use of cameras. Cameras can be placed outside the home for protection from strangers and they can be placed inside the home to allow insight into what goes on when the babysitter is in charge, a repairman is in the home or a person in to clean. To some people they may feel it is an invasion of the persons who is being seen on the camera, but to a homeowner who has the need to have these non-family members in their home it is an added way to protect the home and family. It is also a benefit to help the homeowner relax while away on vacation, because at any time they are able to see what is going on at their home on their computer while away on vacation.

These are a few of the items that can be used to make a home more secure and a family safer and that is what is most important is to be safe and secure at home. In a time when home break-ins are on the rise and occurring more often when the family is at home there is no amount of protection that should not be used to keep a family safe and a house protected.

Security Systems – Home Security

Posted on May 7, 2017 in Uncategorized

Home security systems are becoming a vital part of any residence. Crime is always on the increase, and protecting your home with a security system is becoming cheaper and much easier, with user friendly systems – even with do it yourself equipment.

There are many different systems to choose from, and many experienced and approved providers that will select, install, monitor, and maintain your system. You can have a simple system that has coverage of say three to six areas, with one code pad or you can have many code pads throughout the house, many coverage/sensor points, coupled with cameras and digital video recording and monitors.

You can even have a system that is home automated intelligence. This means that all electronics and security systems throughout your home can be managed from a single keypad or mobile phone. You can have cameras that record back to your laptop at work, mobile phone, or a receiving monitor/screen in your vehicle.

I suggest that everyone have at least a simple system that can sound an alarm if your home is breached. Not only do you have something in place for a possible break and enter, but you also lower your insurance premiums and increase confidence and peace of mind when you leave your home unattended.

Having a security system reduces the chance of break-in; having a monitored system reduces this even further.

But first things first

1. Let’s start with why you want a security system, and what you want the system to do. Make sure you know the answers to these two questions, as it will save you time and money in ensuring that you get the correct system to suit your needs.

2. How much do you need to spend? This usually goes hand in hand with what you are protecting – house, family and/or possessions. Always buy the best that you can afford, you can often regret going for the cheapest system as it will generally cost you more in the long run. Having a well priced and effective system means that you can add functionality in the future, and upgrade to suit your needs. This is also a very good selling point should you sell your property.

Choose a consultant

A consultant may be an independent contractor or from a systems company. Their aim is to complete an assessment of your home, identify what you are protecting, and establish your budget. This will tell you what you need to suit your specific circumstances.

There are a number of system options that may suit you:

Systems with motion sensors (PIRs)

Motion sensors pick up any movement in a designated area, and report back instantly to your security system. This will trigger the alarm. If you have animals, you can choose the type that recognizes animals (pet friendly). These enable you to have pets inside during the day and night without triggering the alarm.

Wireless and wired

Combining the two will ensure not only reliability, but will allow for the ability to add and upgrade at any time. If the power is cut by an offender, the back up battery will take over so that your home is still secure. Therefore, ensure that you have purchased an approved back up battery system which should last at least 48 hours.

Depending on what you have purchased, you may find that your security system has the capability to send the monitoring company a ‘tamper’ alarm message if your power or phone line has been cut. With today’s technologies almost any alarm configuration is possible.

The wireless system may also have the capacity to send a tamper message to the monitoring company. This needs to be confirmed with the installer and system company. Do not take anything for granted with home security systems, as there are many varieties on the market with different capabilities.

Wireless Technology For Home Security

Posted on April 7, 2017 in Uncategorized

When it comes to home security, there are so many great possibilities. This means that whether homeowners have concerns about someone breaking in while the family sleeps, someone coming while they are on vacation who takes all the prized possessions, or simply someone who enters the home for the sake of vandalizing and causing serious property damage, there are solutions.

The original system was wired, meaning a professional had to come to the home to thread wiring to the location where the system and keypads would be installed. While this remains a great option in many instances, many people are now turning to the convenience, portability, and affordability found with wireless technology for home security.

This particular technology has proven to be just as effective for protecting a home and family as the wired system but in many ways, it is a better system. With this, a home, the family, and all contents are protected 24 hours a day, even while gone. Then, with wireless technology, there are some incredible monitoring options that give the homeowner even more viewing options.

When considering a wireless home security system, the homeowner needs to determine what all they want. For instance, there are systems that have sensor motion detectors, on-site cameras, real time video recording, and much more. The features of the wireless system are just as important as the system itself. Therefore, there are many considerations to take into account.

Now, if a person is in the process of remodeling or doing some type of work on the home then adding a wired system would be ideal. However, most often the home is already built, making it difficult to get in behind the walls to get the wiring installed. For this reason, a professional is needed for the installation, which can be costly. In a case such as this, a wireless system makes much more sense.

One concern that has been raised in the past year specific to wireless home security systems is that some tend to have interruptions from radio frequency. Because of this, a wireless system will have more false alarms than that of a wired system. Another drawback is that some wireless security systems will only work within a specific distance or range.

Of course, while wireless, these alarm systems do require the use of lithium batteries. Therefore, the homeowner needs to ensure that fresh batteries are always installed. Even with the negative aspects, wireless systems are designed to work off radio transmitters in sending signals that go between the control panel, the system’s sensors, and any cameras. This process is generally flawless, giving the entire family a great level of protection.

Whether choosing a wireless or wired system, the most important thing is getting some type of alarm system on the house. Some systems include strobe, sirens, and an automatic dialing system whereby local fire or law enforcement are notified of a problem. The result to the homeowner is having protection so everyone in the household can sleep without being in fear. This society is much difference from years ago but with the proper home alarm, it can still be safe.
